curiousNow that we know how to make our subject lines short and sweet, today we will tackle being informative, yet leaving our readers wanting more.

Tip #3: Be Informative, Yet Incomplete

One sure fire way to get your readers attention and make them click their open button is to leave them wanting more. You probably already know this trick when it comes to the content within the body of your email, but did you know it works just as well with your subject line?

Get your readers’ attention then peak their inner curiosity. Yes, everyone is born with at least a bit of nosiness in their blood. Give them just enough to peak their interest without telling them too much. They’ll follow your lead to learn the rest. It’s the old bait and hook method – works great at the lake and even better with a mailing list.

Yesterday we learned that we must keep our subject lines relevant, today we’ll focus on making everything simple, short and sweet.

kissTip #2: Make it Simple, Make it Short and Make it Sweet

Let’s be honest, people get so many messages in their inbox these days it’s hard to sift through the noise. If your subject line is mediocre or dull and boring the chances of your email getting opened is slim to none. A good subject line should be short and sweet. Get to the point without drawing it out.

There are many ways of accomplishing this. The one that works for your list will depend on the subject matter. For instance, some people are drawn to a shocking headline, while others prefer humor and still others just want to know exactly what they are getting. Here are just a few examples of short and sweet subject lines to help get the gears turning.

“Janet Slack Triples Clients & Sales in 3 Days”

“Yes, I’ve Officially Flipped My Lid”

“Your January Content is Ready & Waiting”

“It’s All Yours – Come & Get It”

No matter which method you use to concoct your subject line, keep it short and sweet to make it stand out from the thousands of other emails your list members receive.

openmailUsing subject lines the right way can greatly improve the number of people who actually open and read your emails. Unless your subscribers open the email they can’t read and act upon all the goodies inside, right? What do your subject lines say to your readers? Are they drab and make your subscribers head for the delete button or do they POP and make them want to read further?

If you’re struggling to get your emails opened, there’s no better time than now to give your prospects what they signed up for.

Over the course of the next five days, we will give you actionable steps you can utilize to craft email subject lines that get noticed and have your readers begging for more.

Tip #1: Maintain Relevance

Make certain your subject line is appropriate for the subject of your list. A reader who signs up for your list expecting one thing, but receiving something completely out of line with what they signed up to receive will not be in the buying mood.

For instance, if you have a list about using the latest and greatest technology – don’t send your readers an email with the subject line:

“The #1 Way to Lose Weight Fast”

No one on your technology list wants to learn about losing weight. Granted some might be interested in weight loss, but not from the technology expert. Remember, one goal of having a targeted list is to build expertise and trust with your readers. Sending them off topic information will accomplish the complete opposite.

You know me, I’m not one to recommend or “market” to my many lists meaninglessly. However this is such a great opportunity and I want as many of you to take advantage of this as possible because space is extremely limited.

What if you could get published, in February 2010 with top-of-the-line book production, professional cover design and a full marketing campaign run by one of the top book PR agencies in the country?

Would you be interested?

I want to let you know of an easy way to  become a published author. This project is  not for everyone, but may be just what you  need to boost your business if – you have a message  about facing fear, AND – you are not interested in all the work  involved  in self-publishing or trying to get an agent, publisher,  publicist, etc.

If this sounds like you, then check out this amazing opportunity being offered by my close, personal friend Sophfronia Scott of Messenger House Books and The Done for You Writing & Publishing Company. It’s such a powerful offer, I signed on right away to be a co-author. We’re assembling a new anthology project featuring some of the top bestselling entrepreneurs working today. The book’s title: “How the Fierce Handle Fear: Secrets to Succeeding In Challenging Times”.

We even managed to secure the FIERCEST entrepreneur of them all for the book: Donald Trump!

Having a book to your name is one of the best ways to dramatically increase your business’s client attraction factor by raising your visibility and establishing you as an expert in your field.

But we understand that in this sluggish economy, it may be hard for some of you to publish well: with high quality design and printing and a full-scale marketing campaign. So we’re making it possible for you to have all that and your photo on the cover of your book to boot!

Whether you’ve already published before or you’re looking for your first book project, you will benefit from contributing to “How the Fierce Handle Fear”. Sophfronia will generously share the skills she gained from her Harvard education and long career at “Time” and “People” magazines as well as her experience as a bestselling author to make this book a great success. You’ll appreciate how much you’ll learn from her just in going through the publishing process. The question is, will you be onboard when the book takes off?

You can go here now to learn more about the project and secure your chapter in the book:

This is your chance to stand out and let your business take its rightful place ahead of your competitors. I’m excited to be the one to offer it to you. I’m doubly excited to see your great results!

Our final tip in this series deals with not over doing your one time offer.

Tip #4: Don’t Over-Do it and Appear Greedy

Sometimes entrepreneurs start to get greedy by offering several one-time offers back to back to back attached to the purchase of the original offer. By the time the person has clicked through pages of additional sales pitches, they may begin to feel like what they originally bought has lost its value.

While one (possibly two) one time offers can work wonders for your profits, you might find that the more of these you offer in sequence, the more disenchanted people can become, not only with your products, but with you as a person. Your sole purpose is to keep your customers happy so they’ll come back over and over. If you destroy the relationship by getting too greedy you won’t be as successful in the long run and will lose customers quickly.

Creating one time offers is an excellent strategy that can greatly increase your profits. Create a compelling offer that will be hard to turn down. Make sure it is a true one time offer, and that you don’t have too many sales pitches that give your customers a bad impression of you. By following this advice, you can increase your profits by 50% or more.
