“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” – Napoleon Hill
Ask any successful public speaker how to achieve your goals and the first piece of advice is likely to be, “think positively.” Positive thoughts are your key to achieving your dreams and goals in your speaking career. While being positive isn’t the only ingredient and characteristic necessary, it is an essential one.
Positive thinking starts with you. Often we look at what we want to achieve in our speaking careers and we’re able to think positively about the goal or the process but we’re unable to think positively about our abilities. What topics do you do well on when speaking? Rather than focus on what you’re not so good at, spend time focusing on what you are good at. Enjoy and relish your strengths. These strengths are what will catapult you to your speaking success. Instead of thinking “I can’t or I won’t be able to,” think “I can, I will, I am able to.”
Don’t put limits on your dreams. The only limit to your success in speaking are your thoughts, fears and limiting beliefs. When you can clear these, you leave room to make the once impossible, possible.
Surround yourself with like minded people. Surrounding yourself with positive people who too are pursuing their dreams of publics speaking will help you attain your own goals. The trick however fist that you must first be a positive thinker to attract these same people. Mastermind groups are an excellent example of the power of positive thoughts and action. Benjamin Franklin had a mastermind group, Henry Ford had a mastermind group and many of our historical and notable success figures found power and by surrounding themselves with like minded people.
Create affirmations for your speaking success. Affirmations are positive statements that motivate you, inspire you, and keep your spirits and confidence high. Affirmations are personal and can only be written by you. Spend some time thinking about fears, limiting beliefs and areas where you lack confidence and write affirmations to help you change those limits into positive thoughts and positive action.
Never give up. Changing your mindset to think positively will help you persevere in your speaking career. One of the common characteristics of successful people is their ability to fail, pick themselves up, fail, pick themselves up and continue this process until they succeed. There’s no way you can suffer failures without a positive attitude. Mistakes and setbacks will happen. Will you be able to handle them and forge ahead? You will if you have the right attitude.
Success in speaking comes to those who focus on the good, who think positively about themselves and the world and who are able to persevere. If you think positive about your dreams and goals until they become part of who you are then you will be on your way to achieving the success you desire.

Has the new Digg changed significantly? In case you haven’t heard, Digg recently transformed their site for the fourth time.
What is Digg?
Digg is one of the first sites that any recent news will hit. It’s where a lot of the other popular social networking sites get their content from. News starts off on Digg, and the other sites pick it up.
How does the story appear?
News sites will submit their items to Digg. As a story rises in the ranks of popularity, it will then send a massive inflow of traffic back to that original site where the submission came from. Users can comment on each article.
How does a Digg-ed story move up in the rankings?
It’s based on how many people “digg” it. The ones with the most are at the top.
So what are the major changes? Now that you know the basics of how the site works, there are three new features you need to be aware of:
1. More submissions
The site is now able to get millions of submissions every day, as opposed to the previous capacity of thousands per day. In other words, now you can be sure you won’t miss out on any news by visiting Digg.
How did this change come about?
Digg has added the capacity to handle the automated submissions done via APIs online. These machines submit thousands of URLs very quickly, in roughly the same time a person can submit a single one.
Can anyone submit a story?
Yes, in addition to automated submissions, any individual can make a submission to Digg. However, you can only submit brand new stories. Digg has a feature that prevents duplicate submissions.
Instead of flagging potential duplicate stories based on the title, a new system simply checks the URL against those already submitted to determine if your submission is new.
2. Easier submissions
Submitting is now much easier than it used to be. There is a simple input bar where you submit the URL of your story, video, blog post, website or other submission. The whole process takes only a few clicks.
3. More personal
The latest design of Digg adds a major new feature that allows you to more easily track the stories that are being circulated among your friends. It is still possible to track and search stories submitted throughout the site, but now you can also create a network of personal connections and follow their “diggs” as well.
Now you have two main pages : one for the diggs of your friends and one for the most popular news stories for the whole site. In other words, the site is more personalized and customizable. It starts to meet the needs of many other social media sites in allowing you to connect and interact with others to share information.
The new design of Digg is an improvement. If you want the most up-to-date news from one location, this is probably the first site you want to visit.

Email marketing is a hot button topic online today. “The money is in the list” is a popular phrase that every online business owner has heard.
This is true. However, a lot of people wrongly focus on getting the biggest list possible, instead of a focused list.
Having a targeted list is critical. A list of 100,000 people that never buy from you does you no good. On the other hand, if you have a list of 400 hyper-responsive prospects, who are ready to buy, then you’re on the right path.
So it’s not about the size about the list, it’s about the quality. A lot of business owners expend a huge amount of energy building a huge list, only to make no sales from it.
So how do you get a targeted list? This isn’t as hard as you might think. Here are three strategies to do this:
Focus on the target
If you are targeting the wrong people, you will not have a focused list. You want to only go after those in your target market which results in sales.
For instance, if you are a business coach for solopreneurs, you probably don’t want moms who buy organic fruits and vegetables on your email marketing list.
Do a joint venture
A joint venture is where you partner with someone in your field who has a list of customers related to what you are selling. They will then send out an email to their list advertising your product.
This is another great way to generate targeted prospects on your email list. Just make sure your joint venture partner is selling a closely related product or service.
Ask for a lot of information
It’s no secret that the less information you get, the more people will sign up. This is why most sites just get the first name and email address of the person signing up.
However, if someone is willing to give you their phone number and home address, this means they are a great prospect. This isn’t necessarily something you want to do, but it might be worth testing.
The bottom line is, as long as you focus your advertising on the right sources of traffic, you can be sure that 100% of your visitors are prospects. So avoid getting people on your list just to get them on your list. They are not targeted and will not help you in the long run.
Instead, get your offer in front of the right people, make it clear on your site what you are selling, and you will generate a large targeted list.
